Clinical learning is based in community hospitals and community sites & includes rural medicine. Learning is evidenced-based & self-directed, emphasizing compassionate communication & clinical skills. Clinical/basic research is available to motivated students.

The climate in Hawaii is one of the tropics, and there are no distinct seasons. However, the temperatures here are much more bearable than in other parts of this climate zone, since cooling northeast trade winds prevail. There are also clear differences in the rainfall, depending on where you are and where the wind is blowing from. There are places that are among the wettest in the world and others that are very dry.
Activities and attractions in Hawaii
Hawaii is the largest island in this archipelago and impresses with its scenic diversity. In addition to snow-white palm-lined dream beaches, the island is characterized by barren volcanic landscapes and rainforests. Miles of coastline alternate with fruit and coffee plantations and pasture for cattle.
Modern world cities such as Honolulu and picturesque historical towns combine the past and the present. Numerous historical sights and sites bring visitors closer to Hawaii’s culture and history. If you visit this island state, you should bring a lot of time, because there is so much to discover here that you will love to come back.
From Waikiki to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and to Haleakala
Those who spend a vacation in Hawaii often travel with a USA flight with a stopover. Interesting stops are San Francisco (with Cable Cars, Alcatraz, Chinatown and Fishermen’s Wharf) or Los Angeles (with the Walk of Fame, Hollywood and the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim).
Many also combine a tour of the western United States (with stations such as Yellowstone National Park, Las Vegas and Death Valley) followed by a week’s beach holiday in Hawaii. A week is of course not enough to get a representative picture of Hawaii’s landscape and character.
Anyone visiting Hawaii will immediately feel at home. The relaxed way of life and the relaxed manners stand out directly and make the days here even more relaxing. The beach at Waikiki Beach of Honolulu was rather a bit, but value & with its hotel complexes, numerous bars, restaurants too touristy and crowded quite an experience. Here you can see pretty much everything from pale Japanese women with kitschy swimsuits to colorful, imposing buildings. Interesting tropical fish can be found in the Waikiki Aquarium.
From Diamond Head you have a good view of the American city. Some representative government buildings are also worth seeing in Honolulu. A visit to the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor, the national memorial to the Japanese attack in 1941, is impressive. You can visit the museum on land as well as take a boat tour to the memorial.
Also worth seeing are the Halona Blowhole (a water geyser), the Polynesian Cultural Center (an open-air museum operated by the Mormons over various islands in Polynesia), the Chinaman’s Hat (an offshore island in the form of a Chinese hat) and the Valley of the Temples Byodo-In Temple (an impressive temple modeled after a Japanese temple in Kyoto.
You should definitely try the different sushi specialties, but also a shave ice for refreshment in the sun. The north coast of Oahu is also a surfers’ paradise, like so many places in Hawaii.
On the island of Kauai you should take a hiking tour along the Napali Coast, a scenic route. The island is also suitable for helicopter tours. Also impressive is the Waimea Canyon and of course the many chickens and roosters on the island that have broken out since a tropical storm and can now be found freely on the island. Also worth seeing are the swinging bridge of Hanapepe, the Russian Fort Elizabeth and the Captain Cook monument and the black beach in Waimea.
Big Island is particularly diverse. As the largest island, it has a wide variety of landscapes to offer. The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is particularly interesting, where you can experience lava eruptions up close and find out more about the area in the visitor center. The South Point is the southernmost point in the United States. If you are on the island, you should also visit the Akaka Falls. The Kaulana Bay with the famous green beach is also known. Another special thing is a kayak tour to the Captain Cook Monument, where you can also go snorkeling and find colorful tropical fish.
Maui is particularly known for the impressive sunrises on Haleakala, for which you have to get up very early. You need good nerves on a ride on the narrow and winding Hana Highway, which will reward you with impressive spectacles. Here you can go to the natural seven pools or stop at the Keanae Arboretum and visit exotic plants. One of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii is the DT Fleming Beach. Fresh fish as a catch of the day is available in the restaurants in Lahaina, the old Hawaiian capital.
