About Georgia
If you visit Georgia, you should definitely visit one of the offshore islands such as Jekyll Island (with about 16 km of beach), St. Simons Island, Cumberland Island or Sea Island and enjoy the great sandy beaches there.
The Antebellum Trail is also worth seeing because there are still many buildings in seven municipalities that date from the time before the civil war. The places were spared by the infamous General Sherman, who devastated large parts of Georgia during the war. Cities like Eatonton, Macon (also known for the Tubman African American Museum), Madison and Watkinsville still show large properties in the splendid style of the former southern states.
In Milledgeville you should definitely visit the Old Governor’s Villa. Athens is known for its double-barreled cannon from the time of the civil war, as well as for the prevailing Greek Revival architecture. The student city also offers numerous pubs, music clubs and places with live music.
The Olympic City (1996) Atlanta, the capital of Georgia, is one of the most visited cities in the United States. Here you will find some government buildings such as the State Capitol, but also one of the most famous art museums in the USA, the High Museum of Art. Also worth seeing is the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA), the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia and Atlanta Contemporary Art Center. The city has also been known for the Atlanta Ballet, the Atlanta Opera, the Alliance Theater and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
Music, dance and culture are very important here. Whether you like indie rock or country music, you can always find your style in the metropolis. The Atlanta Cyclorama and Civil War Museum deals with the American Civil War. One of the city’s main attractions is the Georgia Aquarium. Grant Park is home to the city’s zoo, and there is a botanical garden in Atlanta that is well worth seeing. If you are interested in the history of Coca-Cola, you should plan the World of Coca-Cola.
Savannah is also a very impressive city. The city is famous for its historic buildings (like the Pink House) and squares (City Market). Historic forts are the Fort Pulaski National Monument and Fort James Jackson. The old town is considered one of the most beautiful in the entire United States. You should also visit the Juliette Gordon Low Historic District. The local churches offer numerous opportunities to attend a gospel event.
Active athletes like the mountains of the state. The famous Appalachian Trail also leads through Georgia. The many lakes and rivers offer water sports enthusiasts good opportunities to pursue their hobby.
In Georgia you may also find one or the other scene from television, because numerous films such as Green Tomatoes, Blind Side – The Great Chance (with Sandra Bullock) or Glory were filmed here.
