About Florida

Of course, the popularity of Florida is also the responsibility of the John F. Kennedy Space Center, where the U.S. spaceport is located. It offers jobs for numerous people and is also a tourist magnet for the region around Cape Canaveral.

Many people also visit Florida amusement parks such as Walt Disney World Resort (Disney World), SeaWorld (Amusement Park and Dolphinarium), or Universal Orlando Resort (all in Orlando).

Water sports enthusiasts, artists, divers, surfers, wakeboarders and anglers will feel at home in the Florida Keys. The subtropical underwater world and life on the reef can be both immersed and explored with special excursion boats. If you want to be a bit quieter, you should visit the Lower Keys.

All in all, Florida attracts with over 1,300 km of beaches, palm trees and an infinite number of activities and recreational opportunities in a pleasant year-round climate.

Also worth seeing is Fort Myers, the City of Palms with the former winter residence Seminole Lodge of the inventor Thomas Alva Edison (1847 – 1931), which can be visited today as a museum. In Fort Lauderdale, the city with the many canals and waterways (Venice of America), you should visit the Museum of Discovery and Science, Bonnet House, the Fort Lauderdale History Center and the local Museum of Art.

In the capital Tallahassee, in the north of the state, you can find beautiful historical architecture and southern flair. An interesting street is the Canopy Road with many oak trees. Worth seeing here are the old and the new Capitol of Florida (standing one behind the other), whereby the Old State Capitol appears to many as the more beautiful. You can immerse yourself in the history of the state in the Museum of Florida History.

In Miami, one should visit the Cuban district of Little Havana, where there are numerous festivals. The carnival is known, but so is the three-king parade. On the streets of the district, Caribbean-Latin American life and culture is always on offer outside of these festivals. Spanish is more common here than English. If you visit Miami, you can also stop by the Miami Seaquarium and admire orcas, dolphins, sea turtles and sharks.

The nature of Florida can be discovered in the three national parks. The most famous national park in Florida is the Everglades National Park near Miami. In the tropical marshland you will find wild alligators, cormorants, flamingos, pelicans, storks, the Florida panther and rare manatees.

The Everglades were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. Other national parks are Biscayne National Park (Biscayne Bay and northern Keys with huge coral reef; kayak tours are popular) and Dry-Tortugas National Park (is located west of Key West with coral reef and sunken ships).
