One thing is shown again this year, when one searches through current look books and catalogs, the Poloshirt is from the summer 2016 not to be imagined. Therefore, with this article, I would like to take a look at the polo shirt in general, which trends there are in 2016, what this is and what to look for when buying.
In order to lighten the contribution a little, I have had in various polo shirts of hajo polo & sportswear photographed and incorporated. Hajo is surely still a term to you, because I last December during the shoot of the new collection in Berlin accompanied and here in the men’s style reported. Now, however, go with the facts about the Poloshirt.
What Is Behind The Poloshirt?
The polo shirt is a shirt with ribbed collar and sleeves, which are also ribbed and have elastic cuffs. Due to its origin in tennis, in 1933, the modern polo shirt is considered a classic of sportswear. Over the years, however, it has found its way into the clothes closets of non-athletes and makes a good figure in everyday life.
Who Invented The Poloshirt?
The Poloshirt was invented by the French tennis player René Lacoste, who was called “crocodile” on the pitch. Out of necessity, as he was fed up with stiff jackets and impractical long-sleeved shirts at the match, he set off for an alternative. Short sleeves and a more comfortable material were a must. He took inspiration from the shirts, which had been worn since the beginning of the century in subtropical warm India to the polo game.
So he cut the sleeves of his shirts and took back on Piqué fabric for his poloshirt, thus the modern classic saw the light of the world. This is why the classic Piqué Polo is also known as the real Polo. Lacoste provided his shirt with his nickname “crocodile” as a logo and since then the poloshirt is no longer separate from the well-known brand Lacoste. Even if there are now a lot of labels, which always give the Poloshirt a new style.
What Does “PiquÉ” Mean In Connection With Poloshirts?
As mentioned above, the piqué polo is a classic for the polo shirt. According toWikipedia Pikee is a mostly cotton fabric with alternating raised and recessed spots. It appears as quilted (piqué) and belongs to the double fabrics. Piqúe has the advantage that it allows air circulation on the skin and does not “stick” the garment.
Polo shirts are mostly made of cotton piqué. Meanwhile, there are also chic polos in (single-) jersey, a smooth product on the market. And the customer has thereby almost the agony of the choice from which material the own upper part should now be. You can not do anything with the classic cotton piqué.
How Must A Poloshirt Sit?
There is a lot to consider here, so a polo shirt should not be too far, but it must not be too tight. The middle way is the solution, that is, the shirt should touch the body and play it, but in no case too tight, such as a Slim-Fit shirt. With regard to the sleeves it can be said that these are about ten centimeters above the elbow end, it ends still further away, the arms are emphasized more strongly. The polo shirt itself ends in the best case at the height of the hip.
What Does It Have To Do With Different Pole Positions And What Is Currently The Trend?
With the Polokrägen it is like with trendy colors and Styles, they all arrange themselves under current trends. Therefore, it is not surprising that the size of the pole positions vary over time. At the moment are rather small collars announced. Furthermore, polka-dots are used to give the shirt a special aspect by means of two-tone optics, strips, printed, etc. But also here one should be careful, there is also too much of the good.
Collar Up Or Down At The Polo Shirt?
Get down! You do not have to say anything more. But I would not like to be like this and quote the Süddeutsche Zeitung:
“Pushing up the collar of his polo shirt is almost as obvious as to hang his hosier in his ears: theoretically possible, but not so thought.”
On What Occasion Can You Wear Poloshirts?
In general, one can say that a poloshirt in the middle is between a simple T-shirt and a shirt. This is why polo shirts are much more serious and less leisurely than T-shirts, but they are themselves under the shirt. In addition, one must not forget that the Poloshirt has its origin in sport.
So you can wear a polo shirt always in the spare time or on the casual Friday, without worrying about whether you make a good figure. Even more simply, whenever a suit is not worn, a polo shirt in conjunction with khakis, chinos or jeans makes a casual but not too casual impression. Here, the great advantage of the shell is certainly its simplicity. Because it fits to any pants and situation.Whether elegant in the job, casual in the leisure time or stylish in the evening – in the polo shirt you always look well-dressed. Provided you combine it correctly!
How To Combine A Poloshirt With Other Clothing Pieces?
I already mentioned the first combination possibilities. This can easily be combined with all trousers, jeans, chinos, shorts and co. It is only necessary to ensure that these are matched by general design aspects. A dotted trouser with a striped poloshirt looks out for nothing. Also a lengthwise striped trousers in connection with a cross-striped polo does not go. The best thing is to keep a little understatement and combine a plain, well-fitting poloshirt with an appropriate chino or jeans.
What Can You Wear Over A Poloshirt?
First of all, it should be noted that you do not wear a roll collar or round neck sweater over it. This looks for nothing and produces at least visually a hump in the wearer. On the other hand, light transition jackets or summer jackets can be used. Even in the office, the poloshirt can go under a jacket, on Casual Friday, as office-appropriate. Here, however, should be used rather to restrained colors. In the leisure time it may also be a bit stronger and more colorful.
What Should You Look Out For When Choosing Your Polo Shirt?
When it comes to the design of the fabric, apart from Unis, Unis with club patches are of course also important stripes. In 2016 the classic and maritime variations are particularly popular here. Who has a little belly, should avoid block strips, which make namely thicker. So here to the plain color variant of the poloshirts.
If you have further questions about the Poloshirt, I am glad if you put this in the comments. Then I will try to answer these best.
