According to Homethodology, Oklahoma is one of 50 states in the United States. It is located in the South Central region of the country and borders Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Texas, New Mexico and Colorado. Oklahoma is known for its vibrant Native American culture and its natural beauty. The state’s economy is largely based on oil, agriculture, and tourism. Oklahoma City is the capital and largest city in the state. Modern history of Oklahoma began with the state’s admission to the Union in 1907. Oklahoma was admitted as the 46th state, becoming the first state admitted to the union from Indian Territory and the only one created from an Indian reservation. The 1920s saw a period of economic growth in Oklahoma, fueled by a boom in oil production and agricultural production. Prosperity continued through World War II, when many Oklahomans served in the armed forces and defense industries. In 1955, Oklahoma City was devastated by a massive tornado that killed more than 100 people and destroyed hundreds of homes and businesses. The rebuilding effort set off an economic boom that lasted into the 1970s. During this time, many large companies such as Boeing and Microsoft located offices in Oklahoma City. The 1980s brought an economic downturn to Oklahoma due to falling oil prices and a recession that hit most of the country. In 1988, Hurricane Gilbert caused extensive damage along Oklahoma’s Gulf Coast, bringing flooding rains to much of the state. In 1995, the bombing of a federal building in downtown Oklahoma City left 168 people dead and hundreds more injured or traumatized by the attack. The tragedy united Oklahomans in grief and solidarity, leading to an outpouring of support for victims’ families throughout the state. In recent years, Oklahoma has seen a resurgence in its economy due to growth in energy production and new businesses moving into both rural areas and larger cities like Tulsa and Oklahoma City. The state has also seen increased investment in education initiatives aimed at improving educational outcomes for all students across all levels of education.
