According to Homethodology, New Mexico is one of 50 states in the United States. It is located in the south-western region of the country and is bordered by Texas to the east, Oklahoma to the northeast, Colorado to the north, Arizona to the west, and Mexico to the south. The capital of New Mexico is Santa Fe and its largest city is Albuquerque. New Mexico has a population of 2,096,829 people as of 2019. The state’s economy is based largely on tourism, oil and gas production, federal government spending, and agriculture. The modern history of New Mexico began with the arrival of Spanish settlers in the early 16th century. The native Pueblo people were subjugated by the Spanish and forced to assimilate. After Mexico gained independence from Spain, New Mexico became part of the Mexican state of Chihuahua before becoming a U.S. territory after the Mexican-American War. The arrival of Anglo-American settlers in the 19th century led to increased tension between them and the native population, culminating in a series of revolts known as the Pueblo Revolt. In 1912, New Mexico achieved statehood and has since experienced rapid population growth and economic development fueled by its diverse culture and vibrant tourist industry. In recent decades, New Mexico has become an important center for technology, aerospace research, film production, renewable energy production, and agricultural production. It is also home to several major military installations, including Holloman Air Force Base and White Sands Missile Range. Check topschoolsoflaw.com for more about New Mexico history.
