According to Homethodology, Nevada is one of 50 states in the United States. It is located in the western region of the United States and is bordered by Oregon to the northwest, Idaho to the northeast, California to the west, Arizona to the southeast and Utah to the east. Nevada became a U.S. state in 1864 as part of the Nevada Territory. Its capital is Carson City and its largest city is Las Vegas. The state’s economy is largely based on tourism, mining and gaming. Modern history of Nevada began in the early 20th century, when the state became a major destination for tourists and gamblers. During the 1920s, Las Vegas was established as a resort city, and gambling was legalized. This led to a boom in the construction of casinos and hotels, which in turn created jobs and attracted more people to the area. In 1931, Nevada became the first state to legalize gambling and it has since remained one of the most liberal states in terms of gaming laws. In 1941, construction began on what would become Hoover Dam, providing much needed electricity to Las Vegas and other parts of Nevada. In 1955, Nevada became known as “The Silver State” due to its abundance of silver ore deposits found throughout the state. The discovery of gold ore deposits in 1961 further helped boost Nevada’s economy. During the 1960s and 1970s, Las Vegas experienced a major population boom as tourism increased due to new air conditioning technology that made it possible for visitors from all over the world to visit year-round. This growth also led to an increase in casino revenue and economic activity throughout Nevada. More recently, during the 1990s and 2000s Nevada has become known as one of America’s fastest growing states with an influx of people moving there for jobs or retirement. In addition, Reno has seen significant growth due to its proximity to Silicon Valley tech companies looking for space outside California’s high taxes.
