According to Homethodology, Arkansas is one of 50 states in the United States. It is located in the south-central region of the country and is bordered by six other states: Missouri to the north, Tennessee and Mississippi to the east, Louisiana to the south, Texas to the southwest, and Oklahoma to the west. Arkansas has a population of over 3 million people and covers an area of 53,179 square miles making it the 33rd largest state by area. The capital of Arkansas is Little Rock and its largest city is also Little Rock. Modern history of Arkansas began in the early 1900s, when the state saw an influx of immigrants and African Americans from other parts of the country. This period also marked an increase in industry, particularly in the timber and agricultural sectors. During World War II, Arkansas supplied much of the raw material for military vehicles and equipment. The post-war years brought about rapid urbanization and a shift to a service-based economy. The state also saw significant population growth due to migration from other parts of the country. In 1964, Arkansas was one of five states to vote for Barry Goldwater in the presidential election, which helped launch the Republican Party’s “Southern Strategy” that would eventually lead them to control most Southern states. During this time period, civil rights activists made great strides in desegregating public schools and other institutions across Arkansas. In 1971, Arkansas became one of the first states to legalize gambling through its Lottery Commission. In 1979, it became one of a handful of states that allowed casinos after voters approved a ballot measure legalizing them at Hot Springs racetracks. The 1980s saw economic diversification with investments in technology companies as well as tourism development along its rivers and lakes. In 1992, Bill Clinton was elected President while serving as Governor of Arkansas; he remains one of its most famous figures today. In recent years, Arkansas has seen growth in its tech industry through initiatives like Startup Arkansas as well as continued investment in tourism with attractions like Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and Little Rock’s Clinton Presidential Center & Park drawing visitors from around the world.
