Hawaii Highlights

By | December 2, 2022

Hawaii is a group of volcanic islands that, with its beautiful beaches and luxury hotels, is best known as a wonderful holiday destination. Although the archipelago consists of hundreds of volcanic islands, only the largest islands are inhabited.

Traffic In Hawaii And The Surrounding Area

According to deluxesurveillance, Hawaii is the fiftieth state of the United States. The 137 atolls and volcanic islands are located in the middle Pacific Ocean. The roads here are well maintained and especially if you drive outside of Honolulu it is very quiet on the roads. Along the way you will regularly encounter parking lots with toilets and petrol stations. Also keep your eyes peeled for sights that are clearly marked. In Hawaii you drive on the right. There is a speed limit of 65 mph (104 km/h) and in built-up areas this is 35 mph (56 km/h).

Traffic rules in Hawaii are similar to those in the United States. The road markings and traffic signs differ from the Dutch ones. White lines on the road divide the road into lanes in the same direction, while yellow lines divide the lanes in the opposite direction. A single broken white line indicates a lane in the same direction and you may change lanes here. A single solid white line means both lanes are going in the same direction, but you are not allowed to change lanes here. If you see a double full line, you must not drive over it. With a single broken yellow line you may temporarily change lanes to overtake a car. A double full line means that you are not allowed to overtake here if it means driving over the line.

Slide down the roof, roll down the windows and keep the camera within reach: Hawaii is an excellent destination to enjoy a wonderful car ride. There are plenty of beautiful places to drive past, but the Road to Hana has to be one of the most beautiful. This is a very winding road along the coast of Maui. Moreover, there are many stopping places where you can enjoy the view.

Meet The Locals On Oahu

Oahu is the main island and it is bustling here. About 75% of the population lives here and this is also the island where you will encounter the most tourists. Honolulu is the capital and here you can enjoy delicious food in various bars and restaurants. In addition, the largest outdoor shopping center in the world can be found here: the Ala Moana Center. Oahu has a number of beautiful beaches, of which Waikiki Beach is probably the most famous. Here you can enjoy the surfers in crystal clear water or you can snorkel yourself to explore the underwater world.

In 1941, the Japanese attacked the famous Pearl Harbor naval base here. Nowadays you can see an impressive war memorial at Pearl Harbor.

Enjoy The Tranquility Of Kauai

Where you enjoy a vibrant life in Oahu, it is remarkably quieter on Kauai. Nature is truly beautiful. Here is also one of the wettest places in the world where a lush rainforest has emerged. The island has some beautiful highlights such as Pali Coast, one of the most beautiful coasts in the world, Waimea Canyon, the Grand Canyon of Hawaii and the waterfalls of Fantasy Island. This exotic island is perfect for going on an adventure or just enjoying nature.

Visit Big Island

Hawaii’s largest island is Hawaii. To avoid confusion, it is also referred to as the Big Island because it is the largest island in the archipelago. Here is also the impressive Volcanoes National Park where the volcano Kilauea is still active and produces a constant lava flow. You should definitely not miss this island. The island is also ideal for snorkeling, golfing or kayaking.

Admire The Valleys Of Maui

Maui is an island of large valleys between the volcanoes and is therefore also called the Valley Island. On beaches such as Wallea Beach and Makena Beach, you can put a towel on the beach or look for the underwater world. Next, visit the town of Hana where the 83km coastal route takes you past some of the island’s most beautiful spots. For a magnificent view of the lunar landscape, climb the 3,000 meter high volcano Haleakala. The view from the crater is spectacular.

Discover The Pineapple Plantations Of Lanai

The smallest inhabited island in Hawaii is Lanai. On the island, also known as the Pineapple Isle, you will find a huge amount of pineapple plantations. But Lanai also offers a lot of peace and privacy. Here too you can enjoy those idyllic beaches again, but if you prefer an adventure, a 4WD is waiting for you to explore the rugged landscape.

Honolulu County

Honolulu is the capital of the US state of Hawaii, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The city is located on Oahu, the third largest but most densely populated island in the archipelago. Oahu is known for its beautiful nature and paradise beaches. The mountains on the island offer beautiful views of the land and the ocean. Waikiki Beach is Honolulu’s most famous beach, but the city and island have many other beaches that are ideal for surfers. When you rent a car in Honolulu you can explore the island of Oahu in just a few days.

The island certainly offers some nice driving routes. The Pali Highway from Honolulu provides scenic views en route to the resort town of Kailua. Kailua has a sandy beach and clear sea water, as well as hip boutiques and luxury restaurants. An hour north of Honolulu is Turtle Bay, a coastline full of rock formations and wild beaches. From here you can, with a dose of luck, see whales and sea turtles. When you really want to leave civilization behind, you can drive to Ka?ena Point. From Honolulu, this also takes just over an hour. The pristine beaches of Ka?ena Point were the set for the hit television series Lost.
